Snowstorm Forces Knox County Schools to Close, Utilize E-Learning

Updated: Jan 25

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A winter snowstorm has forced schools across Knox County to cancel classes for the first part of the week.

All four Knox County school districts announced closures Sunday afternoon, saying they will use a mix of asynchronous and synchronous e-learning through Wednesday.

Asynchronous learning allows students to access lessons and complete assignments on their own schedule, while synchronous learning involves real-time instruction with teachers, often through live video sessions.

We’ve broken down school closures and e-learning plans for each district:

NORTH KNOX SCHOOL CORPORATION:

  • Monday, January 26 – Closed; Asynchronous e-learning day

  • Tuesday, January 27 – Closed; Synchronous e-learning day

  • Wednesday, January 28 – Closed; Synchronous e-learning day

You can find more information about Synchronous learning at North Knox School Corporation here.

SOUTH KNOX SCHOOL CORPORATION:

  • Monday, January 26 – Closed; e-learning day

VINCENNES CATHOLIC SCHOOLS:

  • Monday, January 26 – Closed; Asynchronous e-learning day

  • Tuesday, January 27 – Closed; Make-up day on Monday, February 16

  • Wednesday, January 28 – Closed; Asynchronous e-learning day

VINCENNES COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION:

  • Monday, January 26 – Closed; Asynchronous e-learning day

  • Tuesday, January 27 – Closed; Synchronous e-learning day

  • Wednesday, January 28 – Closed; Synchronous e-learning day

You can find more information about Synchronous learning at the Vincennes Community School Corporation here.

Public schools in Indiana are required to provide 180 instructional days each school year.

Schools may count up to three asynchronous e-learning days as regular school days each year.

If more than three asynchronous days are used, those additional days may not count toward the 180-day requirement and may need to be made up.

There is no limit on synchronous learning days, and those days count toward the 180-day requirement without needing to be made up.
