National Weather Service Confirms EF-0 Tornado in Knox County During June 21 Storms

BICKNELL, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in northern Knox County during the severe storms that moved through on Sunday, June 21.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado occurred around 7:00 p.m. approximately three miles west of Bicknell.

The tornado was rated an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with estimated peak winds of 85 mph.

Estimated to be 80 yards wide, it traveled about 0.30 miles before lifting near Windmill Road.

The tornado was added to the National Weather Service survey after drone footage from the Knox County Emergency Management Agency showed a clear path of storm-related damage.

That drone footage showed a path of damage that included large hardwood tree limbs knocked down near high-voltage power lines.

The strongest damage was observed closer to Windmill Road, where the National Weather Service documented additional tree damage and an outbuilding that had its roof completely removed.

The National Weather Service said the debris pattern supported evidence of tornadic winds.

Radar data also showed a brief Tornado Debris Signature over the location during the time of the tornado.

There were no reported injuries or fatalities from this tornado.
