Indiana State Trooper struck in southern Knox County

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Preliminary reports from the Indiana State Police say that a trooper was flung into a ditch after his vehicle was struck by a car.
Sergeant Seth Rainey with the Indiana State Police told We Are Knox County’s news partner WTWO/WAWV, preliminary reports suggest that the trooper was having issues with his patrol vehicle around 6:17 p.m. when it died on U.S. Highway 41 north of Tom Road.
According to Sgt. Rainey, the trooper allegedly had his vehicle on the shoulder while he was standing on the passenger side.
Then, a vehicle struck the patrol car, which hit the trooper and sent him into a nearby ditch.
Sgt. Rainey said the trooper is conscious and alert, but the extent of his injuries is uncertain at the moment.
The road is currently down to one lane as the trooper is being evaluated.
