VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Vincennes Animal Shelter is asking for the public’s help as it has been operating at full capacity all summer.
“I know it sounds cliché to say we are not okay, but we aren’t,” Shelter Director Leah Reagan told WAKC News Now.
“Staff is worn out and struggling to keep up, and the animals are stressed from the overcrowding and from being here so long.”
To help relieve the strain, the shelter is offering a $25 adoption special on all dogs and cats through Saturday.
Each adoption includes spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping.
Anyone interested in adopting must bring a photo ID.
The shelter is also encouraging community members to consider fostering an animal or volunteering their time.
“Whether it’s walking a dog, cleaning kennels, or simply spending time with an animal, every bit of help makes a difference,” the shelter said.
Reagan also urges pet owners to spay and neuter their pets and to keep them from running loose.
Those interested in adopting or volunteering can stop by the shelter located at 1128 South River Road in Vincennes.
The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 9am until 4pm.
