Small Earthquake Recorded in Knox County Late Sunday Night

DECKER, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A small earthquake was reported in Knox County late Sunday night.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred at 10:18 p.m. and registered a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale.
It was centered in far southwestern Knox County, between Orrville Road and Newton Road, near the area known as "The Point"—about four miles northeast of Mount Carmel.

Generally, earthquakes below a 2.5 magnitude are not felt but can still be recorded by seismographs.
Residents who may have felt the quake are encouraged to report it to the USGS.
The last earthquake centered in Knox County occurred near Emison in May 2012, with magnitudes of 2.7 and 3.1.
The most recent quake widely felt across Knox County was in 2017, when a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Bellmont, Illinois.
A series of earthquakes also occurred near Bellmont in April 2008, which could be felt here in Knox County.
