VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Shane Michael Carie appeared in court Thursday morning for his initial hearing on murder and arson charges connected to a deadly Vincennes house fire.

Carie is charged in connection with the September 21 fire on North 11th Street that killed 19-year-old Aileese Tucker.

A not guilty plea was entered for Carie.

Much of the hearing focused on whether Carie should remain held without bond.

Prosecutors argued Carie should remain in custody without bond, citing the murder charge and his criminal history.

Knox County probation officer Corey Sievers testified that Carie was serving 12 months of probation for battery before his arrest and has nine misdemeanor convictions.

Carie’s attorney asked the court to set a bond, arguing Carie is not a flight risk and could benefit from mental health and rehabilitative services.

The judge ultimately ruled that Carie will remain held without bond, citing local court rules and his criminal history.

A jury trial is currently scheduled for December 15 at 9 a.m.
