BRUCEVILLE, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office is warning semi drivers to follow the posted detours for State Road 67.
State Road 67 from Coon Hunter Road to White Oak Road near Bruceville closed at the end of April for a bridge deck replacement project.
According to the sheriff’s office, many drivers — including semi drivers — are instead using Old Bruceville Road as a detour, even though the road is “not designed to handle these heavy trucks.”
Two semi drivers who became stuck Tuesday were issued citations for failing to use the proper detour.
“All semis found on Old Bruceville Road or any of the side roads near the detour will be issued a citation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
Detour signs direct drivers to use U.S. Highway 41 and State Road 550 as the official route.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the project is expected to be completed by the end of May, weather permitting.
