KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A familiar face in the Knox County Clerk’s Office is stepping forward as a candidate.

Rita Meredith told WAKC News Now on Friday that she will seek the Republican nomination for Knox County Clerk in the 2026 election.

Meredith has worked in the office since 2021, serving as election deputy and first deputy.

“I believe that the Clerk’s Office is where elections, justice, and organization meet,” Meredith said.

“Every court file and every vote matters. I am committed to maintaining an office that is tested, proven, and trusted.”

Current Clerk David Shelton, first elected in 2018, will complete his second term in 2026.

Shelton is running for Secretary of State.
