VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Many people gathered at Patrick Henry Square in Vincennes on Saturday.

The Knox County Democratic Party organized the local event as part of a nationwide series of demonstrations held on “No Kings” Day.

Organizers told WAKC News Now that at least 300 individuals participated in the local protest.

Several speakers addressed a range of social issues, and participants chanted, “this is what democracy looks like”.

According to the Associated Press, the No Kings protests are nationwide demonstrations opposing what organizers describe as authoritarian actions by the Trump administration, while promoting democracy, immigrant rights, and civil liberties.

Nearly 2,000 protests were planned across the country.

In Vincennes, the protest remained peaceful.

Some passing drivers honked and cheered in support, while others voiced disagreement.

Officers from the Vincennes Police Department monitored the event.

Assistant Chief Mark Hensley told WAKC News Now that no issues occurred during the protest.
