Knox County Under Travel Warning as Local Disaster Emergency Declared

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Knox County Board of Commissioners has issued a Local Disaster Emergency Declaration, placing the county under a travel warning.

This is due to the winter storm that moved through Knox County over the weekend.

Commissioner President TJ Brink told WAKC News Now that the Board of Commissioners approved the declaration unanimously Sunday evening.

Under the declaration, nonessential travel on county-maintained roads is prohibited, with exceptions for individuals seeking medical care, emergency personnel, and employees involved in law enforcement, fire services, emergency management, public utilities, and fuel hauling.

Streets maintained by cities or towns, as well as state highways within Knox County, remain open to traffic.

Violators of the declaration may face a fine of up to $100 and could be required by the court to reimburse the county for any costs or damages resulting from their actions.

The declaration will remain in effect until the Board of Commissioners or designated officials determine that the emergency no longer exists.
