WVUT-TV to End PBS Affiliation This Summer

VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Viewers who watch Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) programming in the Vincennes area will soon see some changes.

Vincennes University, owner of WVUT-TV, announced it will end its affiliation with PBS on June 30.

“This decision follows a broader review of operations and long-term sustainability after a loss of federal and state funding for public broadcasting in 2025,” the university said in a press release.

University leadership says the station’s transition is part of an ongoing evaluation of how best to serve students, the region, and the university’s public service mission.

According to Vincennes University, the station provides educational programming, cultural content, and public affairs coverage to southwestern Indiana and surrounding areas.

The university says the station is also used to give students in its broadcasting program hands-on experience.

WVUT-TV began broadcasting in 1968 and has been a PBS affiliate since 1970.

University leaders did not say what comes next for the station after June 30 but say more information will be released once plans are finalized.
