VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Vincennes University is celebrating the completion of its new Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation.
University officials held a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to mark the opening.
The building houses programs in nursing, healthcare services administration, health information management, surgical technology, physical therapist assistant, pharmacy technology, and funeral service education, as well as the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence.
The center includes specialized labs and classrooms designed to replicate real-world professional environments.
Medical students can hands-on experience in a high-tech health science lab with high-fidelity manikins that simulate breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and other responses, as well as a nursing simulation room that mirrors hospital settings with “patient” beds, monitors, IV stands, and programmable manikins.
Pharmacy and surgical technology students work in simulated retail and hospital labs, mock operating rooms, and sterilization spaces, while physical therapist assistant students practice in inpatient and outpatient assessment rooms.
Funeral services students use lecture and workspaces, simulated arrangement conference areas, and a fully functional embalming lab.
Construction on the $33.9 million, state-funded project began in February 2024, and the facility opened to students in January.
The new building is located near Tecumseh Drive in Vincennes next to Updike Hall on Vincennes University’s campus.
