VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Saturday is National Go Skateboarding Day!
A skateboarding competition is being held at Lester Square Park in Vincennes to celebrate and bring the community together.
Skaters of all ages and skill levels are invited to join the competition. It starts at noon, with registration beginning at 11 a.m.
The cost to register is $10, with three divisions: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Prizes such as boards and skate gear will be awarded to the top three in each category.
Following the competition, there will be food trucks, a vendor booth, and live music.
The event is being organized by Jesse Cummings, an avid skater and owner of 1732 Skate Shop in Vincennes.
Cummings tells WAKC News Now there are a couple of reasons he started the event.
“It’s a good way to bring in a lot of people from out of town that skateboard, and skate contests are just all-around good vibes for everyone—not just skateboarders.”
Cummings encourages anyone who’s curious about skateboarding or thinking of giving it a try to come check it out.
“Everybody’s there for the same thing—to have a good time on a piece of wood. It doesn’t matter how good you are, you’ll hear people cheering.”
Those interested in participating can pre-register here.
You can also follow 1732 Skate Shop on Facebook.
