VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Two men are in custody after police responded to reports of gunfire in a Vincennes neighborhood early Monday morning.

The Vincennes Police Department told WAKC News Now that officers were called to the area of Daleview Drive around 2:15 a.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers found 21 spent shell casings in the roadway, and a vehicle parked nearby was hit multiple times.

A witness reported seeing two people running from the area.

Officers later stopped 19-year-old Emery Holt and 18-year-old Briar Thacker a short distance from the scene near Old Bruceville Road and Grouseland Drive.

Detectives say both were carrying firearms and appeared intoxicated.

Court documents say officers believed their impairment was caused by alcohol and suspected drug use.

The affidavit also states that Thacker told investigators the pair was in the neighborhood to buy marijuana.

Both Holt and Thacker were arrested and face preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, criminal mischief, public intoxication, and unlawful consumption of alcohol.

Police say Holt was also wanted on an unrelated firearms offense.

Holt and Thacker remain in the Knox County Jail.

The Vincennes Police Department tells WAKC News Now no injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.
