KNOX COUNTY, Ind (We Are Knox County) - Knox County officials will soon select a temporary replacement for Commissioner Kellie Streeter following her election to the Indiana House of Representatives.

Streeter, who has served as a Knox County Commissioner since 2016, was elected Tuesday to represent Indiana House District 45.

Knox County Clerk David Shelton says he received Streeter’s written resignation, which took effect at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.

Republican Matt Hoffman was elected unopposed to fill Streeter’s commissioner seat beginning January 1, 2027.

However, Streeter’s resignation leaves a vacancy for the remainder of her current term.

Shelton, who also serves as chairman of the Knox County Republican Party, says a caucus will be held later this month to select a qualified Republican to serve the remainder of Streeter’s term.

To qualify, interested candidates must be registered voters, Republicans in good standing, and residents of Washington, Vigo, Busseron or Widner Township in Knox County.

Candidates must submit a completed CEB-5 form to Shelton at least 72 hours before the caucus. Forms may be submitted by email to dshelton.knox.gop@gmail.com.

The caucus is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, at the Knox County Courthouse in Superior Court 1, located on the second floor.

Only qualified Republican precinct chairpersons or their vice chair proxies may attend the caucus.

If only one candidate applies, the selection process will become a direct appointment by the Knox County Republican Party chairman.
