Steps at Sugarloaf Mound in Vincennes Get Needed Attention

VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Access to one of Vincennes’ most historic landmarks is getting a little easier.

Maintenance contractors with the Vincennes State Historic Site have been working to uncover and restore the steps leading up Sugarloaf Mound.

“The steps have been covered for many years, and the community asked for them to be uncovered and maintained again,” site manager Joanne Taylor told WAKC News Now.

Earlier this month, workers cleared vegetation, including a tree and a large bush, from around the steps.

Stones are now being added to fill in the steps.

Sugarloaf Mound is located at 2425 Wabash Avenue in Vincennes.
