Rainbow Over the Bridge Returns for Seventh Year This Weekend

VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The seventh annual Rainbow Over the Bridge event is taking place this weekend.

This year’s pride celebration will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at a new location in Vincennes—the French Commons, commonly known as the Rendezvous grounds.

The family-friendly event will feature live music, food trucks, vendors, and a drag show.

New additions this year include a foam party, a paint-by-numbers backdrop, and a bonfire.

The event, organized by the Wabash Valley Progressives (WVP), started in 2018.

"Our goal has always been to show support for the LGBTQ+ community,” said WVP Board Member Jen Holscher.

“We’ve added elements over the years like the history of the LGBTQ+ movement to help educate people, but providing a safe place to gather and celebrate is still our top priority.”

Holscher said Pride festivals like this are especially important in smaller communities.

“In larger cities, it’s easier to find your people. But here, Rainbow Over the Bridge lets folks know they have allies and family—that we care about them.”

The festival is made possible through community support, including local businesses and individual donors.

“The outpouring of donations this year has been heartwarming,” Holscher added.
