VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Waiting on trains in Vincennes might soon be a thing of the past—thanks to a new tool now available on the city’s mobile app.
Cameras have been installed at several busy crossings around town.
These cameras now stream real-time images to the city’s app, allowing drivers to quickly see which crossings are open and which are blocked by a train.
Camera locations include:
2nd Street & Niblack
Hart Street
Main Street
15th Street
St. Clair Street
Washington Avenue at Wabash Avenue
Users can view the crossings in map or list view through the app.
Tapping on a location brings up a live image of the crossing, which refreshes every few seconds to show current conditions.
When viewing a crossing, a green railroad icon indicates it’s clear, while a red icon means a train is blocking the tracks.
Vincennes is one of just four Indiana cities using this technology through a company called InterFact.
To access the camera feeds, users will need to create a free InterFact account and select Vincennes as their city.
The app also lets users sign up for push and email alerts for updates on railroad crossings.
The City of Vincennes app is available for free on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
