Rail Replacement Project Closes Three Vincennes Crossings
VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Three railroad crossings in Vincennes remain closed as CSX crews continue a rail replacement project.
The crossings at 13th, 14th and 15th streets have been closed since Tuesday.
The project is expected to take four to five days to complete.
According to the Vincennes Mayor's Office, all three crossings are being closed simultaneously because the section of rail being replaced is on a curve.
A CSX representative told WAKC News Now the work is scheduled routine track maintenance.
The work comes just weeks after a train derailment along the same stretch of railroad.
The derailment happened September 5 just south of the 15th Street crossing.
The wheels of at least two train cars came off the tracks, but the cars remained upright and did not overturn.
Several nearby railroad crossings were blocked for nearly six hours while CSX worked to clear the tracks.
CSX tells WAKC News Now the derailment remains under investigation.
