VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Parking along a section of 2nd Street in Vincennes has been temporarily prohibited due to ongoing work on State Road 441.
Earlier this week, “No Parking” signs were posted on 2nd Street between Vigo Street and Willow Street.
The Indiana Department of Transportation closed State Road 441—also known as 6th Street—from Vigo to Willow, prompting the need for a detour.
“The closure has forced oversize farm equipment to seek an alternate route,” Vincennes City Engineer John Sprague told WAKC News Now.
Vehicles parked along 2nd Street made it difficult for large farm equipment to pass through.
After evaluating several options, Sprague and the Vincennes Police Department determined that 2nd Street was the most viable detour for farmers.
The parking restrictions are expected to remain in place for approximately three weeks.
Vehicles can still park on nearby side streets.
