Multiple Departments Battle Field Fire in Knox County

DECKER, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Firefighters spent Saturday afternoon battling a field fire in southern Knox County.

The fire broke out around noon on Ellermann Road, northeast of Decker.

Crews from Johnson Township, Vincennes Township, and Harrison Township, along with local farmers, worked for about an hour and a half to bring it under control.

According to firefighters, the blaze was contained to the field and no structures were damaged.

A spokesperson with Johnson Township Fire Department told WAKC News Now the cause of the fire is unknown.

Dry and windy conditions are believed to have fueled the fire’s rapid spread across the field.

Officials are reminding residents that, even though no burn ban is currently in place, the ground is extremely dry and any open flame can quickly lead to a fire.
