KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A third candidate has entered the race for Knox County Sheriff.
Major Mike Fisher announced on Monday that he is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for Knox County Sheriff in the 2026 primary election.
Fisher, originally from Oaktown, has worked at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for more than twenty years.
Fisher says the various roles he has held have taught him the values of consistent leadership, trust, and a commitment to public service that goes beyond politics.
Fisher joins fellow Republican candidates Deputy Dan Short and Chief Deputy John Fuller, who announced their campaigns earlier this summer.
Current Sheriff Doug Vantlin is set to retire at the end of 2026 due to term limits.
The official candidate filing window for the 2026 election runs from Wednesday, January 7, 2026, through Friday, February 6, 2026, at noon.
