KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam targeting families of individuals who are incarcerated or recently released from jail.
Officials say the scammer claims to be an officer and tells victims their loved one was “released improperly” and must pay for ankle monitoring.
The caller then threatens that if money isn’t sent electronically, the individual will be arrested.
The Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement or the courts will never call and demand money.
Authorities say do not give out personal information or send money if you get a call like this.
If you receive a scam call, hang up and report the call to police.
