KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - All schools in Knox County will receive state funding aimed at strengthening student and staff safety.
The money comes from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s Secured School Safety Grant, which awarded more than $27 million to 494 schools across the state this year.
In Knox County, funding totals more than $271,000, with local schools receiving the following amounts:
Flaget Elementary School – $78,625
North Knox School Corporation – $46,250
Rivet Middle & High School – $21,043.75
South Knox School Corporation – $33,300
Vincennes Community School Corporation – $92,500
According to IDHS, schools can use the grants for a variety of safety measures, including hiring school resource officers, upgrading technology, conducting threat assessments, expanding parent-student support services, and providing emergency response training.
Money may also be used for equipment that restricts access, improves communication with first responders, and enhances overall campus security.
