KNOX COUNTY, Ind. – As temperatures rise, so does the potential for severe weather.
While no storms are expected this weekend, the Knox County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will be conducting a test of the outdoor warning sirens at 11:30 am on Saturday.
According to the EMA, siren tests will be conducted once a month from March through November on the first available Saturday with acceptable weather conditions.
Residents are reminded that outdoor warning sirens are not designed to be heard indoors and should never be relied upon as the only source of emergency notifications.
As the Knox County EMA prepares for severe weather season, Director John Streeter told WAKC News Now that it’s just as important for families to prepare and have a safety plan in place.
“Have more than one way to receive all emergency alerts and a way to communicate with each member of your family during any emergency situation,” said Streeter.
Streeter recommends purchasing a NOAA weather radio and signing up for Knox County’s emergency notification system, CodeRED, to receive real-time alerts.
