KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A Knox County official is looking to take his public service to the state level.
Knox County Clerk David Shelton announced Wednesday that he is entering the race for Indiana Secretary of State, seeking the Republican nomination at the 2026 Indiana Republican State Convention.
Shelton previously ran for the office in 2022, finishing second in a four-way contest at the convention.
In his campaign launch, Shelton pointed to his background in election modernization, cybersecurity, and bipartisan cooperation as key qualifications for the role.
Shelton has received recognition at both the state and national levels.
In 2023, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission honored Knox County for its work in election technology and accessibility.
Shelton was also named Indiana Clerk of the Year in 2022.
If nominated at the 2026 Indiana Republican State Convention, Shelton’s name would appear on the ballot in the November 2026 general election.
