Knox County Cleans Up After Monday Night Storms

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Many in Knox County spent Tuesday afternoon clearing debris after powerful storms swept through the area Monday night.

EMA Director John Streeter confirmed to WAKC News Now that no tornado touched down, but strong winds caused significant damage across the county.

In Bicknell, part of the roof of the French Club on Murlin Street was torn off and blown across the street.

Multiple trees, limbs, and power lines were downed, leaving several streets closed and hundreds without power.

South of Vincennes, damaging winds brought down more trees and limbs.

On Essex Road, strong winds brought down multiple power poles, knocking out electricity to much of the area—including the US 41 Industrial Park.

One of the poles, which carried high-voltage transmission lines, broke in half and caught fire.

It took about three hours for crews to safely shut down and ground the powerlines so firefighters could extinguish the flames.

Utility crews worked overnight, and power was fully restored to people in Knox County by 1:00p.m. Tuesday.

Despite the widespread damage, no injuries were reported.
