KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - People in central and southern Indiana are being asked to cut back on electricity usage until further notice.
“High demand for electricity and tight power supplies throughout the Midwest are causing a serious power supply emergency for central and southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois,” Hoosier Energy said in a press release issued on behalf of electric cooperatives.
This affects WIN Energy REMC customers in Knox County along with other REMC/REC electric cooperatives in the state.
Hoosier Energy says reducing the use of electricity will help ease the strain on the region’s power supply.
“Without swift, voluntary conservation of electricity now, the region could face temporary emergency service interruptions.”
Hoosier Energy suggests turning off all unnecessary lights, waiting to use major appliances such as dishwashers and clothes dryers, turning thermostats to 68 or lower for heating, and turning down electric water heater settings.
