VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Firefighters spent part of Monday afternoon battling a train fire in Vincennes.
According to a post on the Vincennes Township Fire Department’s Facebook page, crews responded around 12:40pm to the railroad crossing on Old Terre Haute Road near Lower Fort Knox Road.
Firefighters said they could see flames coming from the train when they arrived.
Because of high-voltage electrical components on the train, crews used multiple fire extinguishers rather than water to put out the fire.
It took about 15 minutes to bring the flames under control.
According to the post, firefighters remained on scene for about an hour afterward to complete overhaul operations such as checking for hot spots and smoldering materials.
No injuries were reported.
WAKC News Now has reached out to see if a cause for the fire has been determined and will update this article once we hear back.
