Fire Marshal Investigating Fatal Vincennes Fire

UPDATE AT 3:12PM ON 06/17/2025: The Knox County Coroner’s Office has confirmed to WAKC News Now that the person killed in the fire was 86-year-old Gerald Henigsmith.

ORIGINAL STORY: VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - An early morning house fire in Vincennes is under investigation.

It happened around 5:30 Tuesday morning on 4th Street.

According to Vincennes Fire Chief Brett Bobe, the home was filled with smoke when crews arrived.

Firefighters were informed that one person was still inside.

Bobe confirmed that one person was found deceased inside the residence.

Five others were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.

The name of the victim has not been released.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
