Cooling Centers Open as Summer Temperatures Soar

VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-nineties this week.


As the heat rises, so does the need for cool places.


The United Way of Knox County has put together a list of cooling centers around Vincennes.


These places include:


Knox County Public Library; 502 North 7th Street

Phone: 812-886-4380

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 9:30am until 8:00pm

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - 8:30am until 5:30pm


Old Cathedral Church & Annex; 205 Church Street

Phone: 812-882-5638

  • Open Daily


Salvation Army; 2300 North 2nd Street

Phone: 812-882-6933

  • Monday thru Thursday - 9:00am until 3:00pm


Margaret Compton Center/The Hub; 509 North 7th Street

  • Tuesday thru Friday - 9:00am until 3:00pm


YMCA; 2010 College Avenue

Phone: 812-887-0782

  • Day passes for those in need can be accessed by calling Dennis Kordes


In addition to the cooling centers, public pools and splash pads are open.


Rainbow Beach in Gregg Park is open daily from 12:00pm until 6:00pm. Children under 5 can enter for free. For kids aged 5 to 17, the cost is $2.50 per day, while adults pay $3.50 per day.
