KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - The extreme heat continues this week in Knox County.
There are centers in Vincennes to provide a space for people who may need to cool off and rehydrate.
According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s website, there are two centers available:
The Knox County Public Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 9:30am until 8:00pm and Thursday through Saturday from 8:30am until 4:30pm.
It is located at 502 North 7th Street in Vincennes.
The Salvation Army is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 12:00pm and 1:00pm until 4:00pm.
It is closed from 12:00pm until 1:00pm for lunch.
The Salvation Army is located at 2300 North Second Street in Vincennes.
Both locations are walk-in, meaning anyone in need of relief from the heat can simply show up during open hours.
Knox County remains under a heat advisory until 8:00pm on Friday.
To stay safe in extreme heat, the National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of heat-related illness can include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fainting. Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms worsen.
