VINCENNES, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - A boil order is in effect for customers of Vincennes Water Utilities and Knox County Water.
According to the City of Vincennes, the order was issued “out of an abundance of caution” following a "lab error".
A public notice found on the Vincennes Water Utilities' website states that E. coli was detected in routine water samples collected April 15.
The notice says among the six samples the water system exceeded federal standards, and additional sampling is underway to determine the extent of the issue and identify the source.
According to the Knox County Health Department, residents should use bottled water or boil water prior to drinking.
“When boiling water, bring it to a full boil for up to 3 minutes, and then allow the water to cool before using," the Knox County Health Department said in a statement.
Officials say they will notify customers when testing shows the water is safe and the boil order can be lifted.
The order is in effect until at least Tuesday, April 21.
