Tornado Touches Down in Knox County

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down around 12:05 Thursday afternoon in southern Knox County.

According to reports, no homes were damaged and no one was injured.

The tornado did damage Duke Energy's high voltage transmission lines and towers and WIN Energy REMC's distribution lines. South 6th Street Road, Bandmill Road and Coyote Road are closed while power crews work to clean up the downed electrical towers and lines.

It is unclear when power will be restored to the 56 REMC customers without power in that area.

Several roads in Knox County were also closed Thursday afternoon due to flooding. 6th Street was shut down between Niblack Blvd and Autolite Drive for a short time because the road was completely under water.

Knox County remains under a Travel Watch. Several side streets and country roads are still flooded.

All Knox County schools will be operating on a 2 hour delay on Friday because of the flooded roads.
