One Person Dead Following Police Chase
UPDATED 11/01/18: The driver has since been identified as Joseph Robinson. An autopsy has been scheduled for November 2. Preliminary results indicate he died from internal injuries.
ORGINAL STORY POSTED 10/31/18: Around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon, an officer on the Vincennes Police Department spotted a vehicle that was believed to have been used in a felony that took place earlier in the day. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over around 7th and Busseron Street in Vincennes. The chase began in downtown Vincennes when the vehicle refused to pull over and fled.
A passenger was able to escape the vehicle at 6th and Willow Street. That passenger was taken into custody.
The pursuit continued out South 6th Street Road.
According to VPD, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a creek on South 6th Street Road just south of Bandmill Road.
The suspect was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Good Samaritan hospital. The suspect was later pronounced dead.
The suspect’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The incident remains under investigation.
