Six Confirmed Injured in Mining Accident



BRUCEVILLE, Ind. (We Are Knox County) - Six people were injured in a mining accident late Thursday night.


According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the six employees, who have not been named, were injured following a collision involving a mine vehicle.


Two of the workers were airlifted by helicopter to Deaconess Hospital, while the other four were transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.


The accident occurred just before midnight at Sunrise Coal's Bruceville Portal on Perry Road.


The Knox County Sheriff's Office says the Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.


WAKC News Now has reached out to Hallador Energy for more information but has not yet received a response.


Sunrise Coal LLC, which operates the mine, is a subsidiary of Hallador Energy Company.
