Gary M. Bedwell, 80, of Edwardsport passed away Thursday afternoon March 17, 2022 at 12:15 PM at the Freelandville Community Home with his family and friends at his bedside. He was born in Westphalia, IN on September 29, 1941 the son of Doyle and Mable Newkirk Bedwell.
He was a 1959 graduate of Edwardsport High School and served this country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Marilyn Sue Knight on July 13, 1962 and they made their life together for 43 years until her death in May of 2005. He worked in the Amax coal mines in Keensburg, IL and retired from Amax. With his brother, Jack, they hung and finished drywall and general construction. They were viewed by many as the best Drywall professionals in the area.
He was a member of the Edwardsport Baptist Church, Elks in Bicknell and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and fishing with his brother Jack. He loved giving his daily catch of fish, mushrooms or blackberries to any who wanted them.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Lana & Steve LeSieur of Wilmington, DE and Gary Jr. & Kathy Bedwell of Bluffton, IN,. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Alisha Lynn (Bedwell) Tooloose, Amanda Marie Bedwell and Jared Robert Bedwell. He is also survived by a sister, Karen Goodwin of Elizabethtown, TN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Sue Bedwell, his brothers, Claude Bedwell and Jack Bedwell and a sister Margaret Ellen Bedwell.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday March 25, 2022 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel at 7:00 PM with Pastor John Moreland officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the ASPCA animal charity, his favorite charities.
